Chapter 17 - Barbers, Beauticians and Manicurists
§ 451a. Virgin Islands Board for the Licensing of Barbers, Beauticians, and Manicurists

  • (a) There is hereby created within the Department the Virgin Islands Board for the Licensing of Barbers, Beauticians, and Manicurists, referred to as the “Board” hereinafter.

  • (b) The Board shall consist of seven (7) members to be appointed by the Governor, three (3) of whom shall be licensed barbers and four (4) of whom shall be licensed beauticians. Not more than three (3) members may reside on any one island.

  • (c) In making initial appointments, the Governor shall appoint four members to terms of five years and three members for terms of two years. Thereafter, all members shall be appointed for terms of four years, except that any person appointed to fill a vacancy occurring prior to the expiration of the term for which his predecessor was appointed shall serve only for the remainder of such term.

  • (d) The Board shall annually elect one of its members as Chairman; except the Governor shall designate the Chairman of the Board initially appointed.

  • (e) Members of the Board shall receive a per diem of $50.00 for each day or part thereof spent in performing duties of the Board. All Board members, shall, in addition, receive reasonable and necessary travel expenses incurred in attending meetings of the Board.

  • (f) Any member of the Board may be removed by the Governor for cause.
