§ 174a. Recognition of outstanding teachers in public school system

  • (a) Annually, and as part of the observance of Teachers' Day, the Virgin Islands Board of Education shall cause to be selected on an objective basis, one teacher in St. Croix and one teacher in St. Thomas and St. John, whose all-around proficiency, devotion to duty and conduct qualify them for special recognition.

  • (b) The teachers selected for the recognition referred to in subsection (a) of this section shall be referred to as “Teacher of the Year, St. Croix” and “Teacher of the Year, St. Thomas —St. John”, and shall be presented with a suitable award which may include cash, medals, or a grant for study during the summer period in the United States or elsewhere.
