§ 175. Persons to be honored on Teachers' Day

  • The festivals and all other acts which, under sections 172–174 of this title, may be held in the Virgin Islands on Teachers' Day, shall be understood as homage and tribute of appreciation to—
    • (1) all persons who, having licenses from the Department of Education to act as teachers in the public and private schools of the Virgin Islands, are practicing as such on the date of the celebration of Teachers' Day, or who, being entitled to practice, are on leave;

    • (2) all teachers who have been retired in accordance with the laws of the Virgin Islands or who are enjoying a pension for physical disability contracted while they were teaching;

    • (3) all officials and employees of the Department of Education, and former Commissioners and Superintendents of Education who have practiced as teachers;

    • (4) the deceased teachers who distinguished themselves during their apostleship by reason of their faculties as educators and mentors of youth; and

    • (5) the professors of American or foreign universities or colleges recognized in the Virgin Islands, who are in this territory on a cultural mission or are guests of honor of any of our educational institutions.
