58.1-3276. Qualifications of assessors and appraisers; removal andappointment of substitute.

A. Any persons appointed to a board of assessors under the authority of thisarticle shall be freeholders in the county or city for which they serve andshall be appointed by the governing body from the citizens of the county orcity. If at any time the governing body is satisfied that any such assessorappointed under this article will not, or from any cause cannot, perform theduties devolved on him, the governing body may wholly supersede him andappoint another in his place. In order to be eligible for appointment, eachprospective member of such board may, at the discretion of the Department, berequired to attend and participate in the basic course of instruction givenby the Department under 58.1-206.

B. All supervisors, appraisers, and personnel employed by the board ofassessors to perform the general reassessment shall have the qualificationsprescribed by the Department for the particular position held, which shallinclude such combinations of education, training and experience as are deemednecessary for the performance of their duties. The provisions of this articleas to the appointment or removal of such assessors shall apply to anyappointments heretofore or hereafter made.
