55-503. Investigative powers of agency.

A. The agency may initiate public or private investigations within or outsidethis Commonwealth to determine whether any representation in any document orinformation filed with the agency is false or misleading or whether anyperson has engaged, is engaging or is about to engage in any unlawful act orpractice.

B. In the course of any investigation or hearing, the agency may subpoenawitnesses and documents, administer oaths and affirmations and adduceevidence. If a person fails to comply with a subpoena or to answer questionspropounded during the investigation or hearing, the agency may apply to theappropriate court for a contempt order or injunctive or other appropriaterelief to secure compliance.
