54.1-3805.1. Temporary licenses for certain graduates; supervision required.

A. The Board may issue a temporary license to an applicant who (i) hasreceived either a degree in veterinary medicine from a college or school ofveterinary medicine approved by the Board or has fulfilled the requirementsof the Educational Commission of Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) of theAmerican Veterinary Medical Association and (ii) received passing scores onthe National Board Examination and Clinical Competency Test and ECFVGcertification. The applicant must have accepted an offer of employment froma veterinarian approved by the Board and must have taken or have applied totake the next scheduled Virginia State Board Examination.

B. Holders of temporary licenses may practice only under the directsupervision of an approved veterinarian and may not receive a ControlledSubstance Registration Certification number.

The Board may promulgate such regulations as may be necessary to carry outthe provisions of this section, including regulations addressing renewal,duration, termination, and fees for temporary licenses.
