2006 Code of Virginia § 54.1-1142 - Issuance of certification

54.1-1142. Issuance of certification.

A. The Board shall issue a certificate to practice as an elevator mechanic inthe Commonwealth to any applicant who has submitted satisfactory evidencethat he has successfully:

1. Completed the educational requirements as required by the Board, whichshall at a minimum include such requirements as the Board determines willestablish minimum competency on the part of the applicant;

2. Completed the experience requirements as required by the Board, whichshall at a minimum consist of at least three years in the elevator industry;and

3. Passed an examination offered or approved by the Board.

B. The Board may issue a certificate to practice as a certified elevatormechanic to any applicant who has a certification from an associationapproved by the Board that is equal to or exceeds the requirementsestablished by the Board for all applicants.

C. Any individual who applies for certification as an elevator mechanicbetween July 1, 2004, and July 1, 2005, shall be deemed to have fulfilled theexamination requirement if he is able to demonstrate that he has at leastfive years experience as an elevator mechanic.
