46.2-693. Use of old plates and registration number on another vehicle.

Upon receipt of a proper application, an owner who sells or transfers aregistered vehicle may have the license plates and registration numberassigned to another vehicle titled in the name of the owner. If the vehiclerequires identical registration fees, the transfer fee shall be two dollars.If the license fee required for the second vehicle requires a greaterregistration fee, the fee shall be two dollars plus the difference inregistration fees between the two vehicles. All fees collected under theprovisions of this section shall be paid by the Commissioner into the statetreasury and shall be set aside as a special fund to meet the expenses of theDepartment.
