46.2-1536. Coercing purchaser to provide insurance coverage on motorvehicle; penalty.

It shall be unlawful for any dealer or salesperson or any employee of adealer or representative of either to coerce or offer anything of value toany purchaser of a motor vehicle to provide any type of insurance coverage onthe motor vehicle.

Nothing in this section shall prohibit a dealer from requiring that a retailcustomer obtain automobile physical damage insurance to protect collateralsecured by an installment sales contract. Any person found guilty ofviolating any of the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1misdemeanor.
