46.2-1206. Surrender of certificate of title, etc., where motor vehicleacquired for demolition; records to be kept by demolisher.
No demolisher who purchases or otherwise acquires a motor vehicle forwrecking, dismantling, or demolition shall be required to obtain acertificate of title for the motor vehicle in his own name. After the motorvehicle has been demolished, processed, or changed so that it physically isno longer a motor vehicle, the demolisher shall surrender to the Departmentfor cancellation the certificate of title or sales receipt for the vehicle.The Department shall issue the appropriate forms and regulations governingthe surrender of sales receipts and certificates of title.
Demolishers shall keep accurate and complete records of all motor vehiclespurchased or received by them in the course of their business. These recordsshall contain the name and address of the person from whom each motor vehiclewas purchased or received and the date on which purchases or receiptsoccurred. These records shall be open for inspection by the Department atany time during normal business hours.
