24.2-442. Registration records to be maintained by registrars; whenregistration permitted; lapse of registration.

The general registrar shall maintain and make available for inspection by anyregistered voter the applications for temporary registration for hisjurisdiction and separate lists for each precinct of persons registering tovote in the federal election. Registration under this article shall bepermitted until the registration records are closed pursuant to 24.2-416and shall be valid for all elections for which the voter is eligible throughthe next two regularly scheduled general elections for federal officefollowing its receipt. After the second federal general election,registration under this article shall no longer be valid. If an officialreply to the application or an absentee ballot sent to the applicant isreturned as undeliverable, no ballots for subsequent elections shall be sentunder that application. No ballot shall be sent to the applicant, and novoted ballot received from the applicant shall be valid, (i) for any electionheld after the voter has notified the registrar that the voter no longerwishes to be registered or (ii) after the registrar has received notificationthat the voter has registered to vote in another state.
