19.2-30. Abolition of justice of the peace system.

The office of justice of the peace having been abolished effective as ofJanuary 1, 1974, nevertheless, any justice of the peace in office December31, 1973, may continue in office as a magistrate under the provisions ofChapter 3 ( 19.2-26 et seq.) of this title for the remainder of the term forwhich he had been elected or appointed and shall be eligible for futureappointment to serve as a magistrate notwithstanding 19.2-37.
