2006 Code of Virginia § 10.1-1601 - Authority created

10.1-1601. Authority created.

In order to (i) provide a high quality recreational attraction in the westernpart of the Commonwealth; (ii) expand the historical knowledge of adults andchildren; (iii) promote tourism and economic development in the Commonwealth;(iv) set aside and conserve scenic and natural areas along the Roanoke Riverand preserve open-space lands; and (v) enhance and expand research andeducational programs, there is created a political subdivision of theCommonwealth to be known as "The Virginia Recreational FacilitiesAuthority." The Authority's exercise of the powers conferred by this chaptershall be deemed to be the performance of an essential governmental function.
