8.01-176. How payment of such value to be made by defendant; when land soldtherefor.

The payments shall be made to the plaintiff, or into court for his use, andthe land shall be bound therefor, and if the defendant fail to make suchpayments within or at the times limited therefor respectively, the court mayorder the land to be sold and the proceeds applied to the payment of suchvalue and interest, and the surplus, if any, to be paid to the defendant; butif the net proceeds be insufficient to satisfy such value and interest, thedefendant shall not be bound for the deficiency.
