3.1-739.1. Suppression of pleuropneumonia and other diseases among domesticanimals.

The Governor is authorized to accept in behalf of the states the rules andregulations prepared by the Commissioner under and in pursuance of sectionthree of an act of Congress approved May 29, 1884, entitled an act for theestablishment of a bureau of animal industry, to prevent the exportation ofdiseased cattle and to provide means for the suppression and extirpation ofpleuropneumonia and other contagious diseases among domestic animals, and tocooperate with the authorities of the United States in the enforcement of theprovisions of the act.

The inspectors of the bureau of animal industry of the United States shallhave the right of inspection, quarantine, and condemnation of animalsaffected with any contagious, infectious, or communicable diseases, orsuspected to be so affected, or that have been exposed to any such disease,and for these purposes are hereby authorized and empowered to enter upon anyground or premises. Such inspectors shall have the power to call on sheriffsand peace officers to assist them in the discharge of their duties incarrying out the provisions of the act of Congress aforesaid, and it is madethe duty of sheriffs and peace officers to assist such inspectors when sorequested, and such inspectors shall have the same powers and protection aspeace officers while engaged in the discharge of their duties.

All expenses of quarantine, condemnation of animals exposed to disease, andthe expenses of any and all measures that may be used to suppress andextirpate pleuropneumonia shall be paid by the United States, and in no caseshall this Commonwealth be liable for any damages or expenses of any kindunder the provisions of this section.
