3.1-48. Market authorities authorized to be established.

In order to provide facilities for the buying, selling, handling anddistribution of perishable farm produce so as to promote the agricultural andindustrial development of the Commonwealth and the health, safety, welfare,convenience and prosperity of the inhabitants thereof, there is herebyauthorized to be established a wholesale or retail produce market authorityin or for each city, county or any combination of cities and counties of theCommonwealth which is hereby established as and declared to be a politicalsubdivision of the Commonwealth and is authorized and empowered to construct,enlarge, extend, maintain, repair and operate the market, and to issue bondsof the authority as hereinafter provided in this article.
