3.1-290. State Seed Potato Commission continued as State Seed Potato Board.

The State Seed Potato Commission within the Department of Agriculture andConsumer Services is continued and shall hereafter be known as the State SeedPotato Board. The State Seed Potato Board shall consist of seven members fromthe principal potato-growing areas who shall be actively engaged in potatoproduction. The members of the Board shall be appointed by the Governor,subject to confirmation by the General Assembly, and serve for four-yearterms each and until their successors are appointed and take office. Suchappointments may be made from recommendations submitted by the producer anddealer organizations in the principal potato-growing areas. Four members ofthe Board shall constitute a quorum.

The Board shall elect its own chairman and meet at least once each year,prior to the beginning of the seed-potato-buying season, and at such othertimes during the year as it may deem necessary. At such meetings it shall bethe duty of the Board to make such amendments as are necessary in the seedpotato standards adopted by the Board pursuant to this chapter, and to therules and regulations promulgated pursuant hereto for enforcing suchstandards. The chairman of the Board shall have the authority to request theCommissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Dean of the College ofAgriculture, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, thechairman of the State Certified Seed Board, and the Director of the VirginiaTruck and Ornamentals Research Station to appoint appropriate representativesas advisers to the State Seed Potato Board.
