AN ACT

 

Amending the act of October 24, 2012 (P.L.1209, No.151), entitled "An act regulating child labor; conferring powers and duties on the Department of Labor and Industry and the Department of Education; imposing penalties; and making a repeal," further providing for work permit.

 

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby enacts as follows:

 

Section 1.  Section 9(a)(3) and (b)(2) of the act of October 24, 2012 (P.L.1209, No.151), known as the Child Labor Act, are amended to read:

Section 9.  Work permit.

(a)  Form and content.--

(3)  The work permit shall be signed [in the presence of the issuing officer] by the minor.

(b)  Application.--

* * *

(2)  Examination shall be as follows:

(i)  Except as set forth under [subparagraph] subparagraphs (ii) and (iii), a work permit shall not be issued until the applicant has personally appeared before and has been examined by the issuing officer.

(ii)  Subparagraph (i) does not apply if the applicant can demonstrate official proof of high school graduation.

(iii)  The issuing officer may allow the applicant to appear by video conference or other electronic means, in lieu of requiring the physical presence of the applicant.

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
