NRS 459A.010 Publicutility defined. As used in this chapter,public utility means any person who furnishes electricity to other persons.The term includes municipal utilities but does not include persons who furnishelectricity only in emergencies or persons described in subsection 4 of NRS 704.030.

NRS 459A.020 Connectionof generator to public utilitys system for distribution of electricity.

1. Any portable generator of electricity capable ofbeing connected temporarily to an electrical system that is normally furnishedelectricity by a public utility may be connected only after the main switch ofthe system has been opened to isolate that electrical system from the publicutilitys system for distribution of electricity.

2. Any generator of electricity capable of beingpermanently connected to an electrical system, except for a generator ofelectricity designed to run in parallel with a public utilitys system fordistribution of electricity, must be connected by means of a double-throwswitch that isolates that electrical system from the public utilitys system.The provisions of this section do not apply until the service connection fromthe public utility to the customer is installed.

NRS 459A.030 Explanationand warning required before sale, rental or offer to sell or rent generator.

1. Every manufacturer of a generator of electricitycapable of being connected either permanently or temporarily to an electricalsystem must:

(a) Include a statement in the instruction manual forthe generator; and

(b) Attach to the generator a legible label,

explainingthe requirements for installation of the generator and warning of the hazard ofbackfeed into a public utilitys system for distribution of electricity. Anyadvertisement offering to rent or sell a portable generator of electricity mustcontain the same information.

2. No person, government, governmental agency orpolitical subdivision may sell, rent or offer to sell or rent a portablegenerator of electricity unless the label prescribed in subsection 1 is on avisible surface of the generator.

NRS 459A.040 Noticeof hazard of electrical backfeed. Each publicutility shall notify all of its customers of the hazard of electrical backfeedcaused by a generator of electricity.

NRS 459A.050 Penalty. Any person who violates a provision of NRS 459A.020 or 459A.030 is guilty of a misdemeanor.
