Subtitle 17 - Public School Opportunities Enhancement Program.
§ 7-1701. Definitions.
(a) In general. -- In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.
(b) Community school. -- "Community school" means an existing public school in the State that utilizes a community school strategy that is recognized by the Maryland Out of School Time Network.
(c) Extended day and summer enhancement program. -- "Extended day and summer enhancement program" means an educational and recreational enrichment program for children between the ages of 4 and 19 that takes place:
(1) Before and after the school day;
(2) On weekends and holidays; and
(3) During vacations and summer breaks.
(d) Grantee. -- "Grantee" means a local school system, a community school, or a nonprofit organization that receives a Public School Opportunities Enhancement Grant from the Department.
(e) Nonprofit organization. -- "Nonprofit organization" means an organization that is exempt from taxation under ยง 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
(f) Program. -- "Program" means the Public School Opportunities Enhancement Program.
(g) Technical assistance. -- "Technical assistance" means assistance provided by the Department to:
(1) Identify and implement effective practices for extended day and summer enhancement programs;
(2) Ensure that extended day and summer enhancement programs comply with the Maryland Out-of-School Time Programs' Quality Standards Framework; and
(3) Ensure that extended day and summer enhancement programs have an educational component that is age appropriate and aligned with the Maryland College and Career Ready standards.
