70.284 Failure or refusal of sheriff to provide court security services -- Contracts with units of local government. (1) (2) (3) In any county, if the sheriff fails or refuses to provide certified peace officers or certified security officers for the provision of security services to any court of the Court of Justice, then the Administrative Office of the Courts shall contract with a county, urban-county, charter county, consolidated local government, combined local government agency, or an agency of a city government to provide security services to any court of the Court of Justice in the county where the sheriff has failed or refused to provide such services. Security personnel provided by a local government under contract to the Administrative Office of the Courts shall be certified peace officers, certified court security officers, or a combination thereof. A court security officer provided by a unit of local government shall: (a) Meet all of the qualifications and training specified in KRS 15.380 to 15.404; and (b) Have the same power, duties, restrictions, and authority as a certified court security officer pursuant to KRS Chapter 70 and KRS 15.442 and 527.020.
