194A.545 Training and continuing education courses for staff of Department for Community Based Services. (1) The secretary for health and family services shall develop an initial training course and continuing education courses for employees of the Department for Community Based Services concerning the dynamics of domestic violence and elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation; effects of domestic violence and elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation on adult and child victims; legal remedies for protection; lethality and risk issues; model protocols for addressing domestic violence; available community resources and victim services; and reporting requirements. The training shall be developed in consultation with legal, victim services, victim advocacy, and mental health professionals with an expertise in domestic violence. (2) Each person employed by the Department for Community Based Services who provides supervisory or direct service at the local, district, or state level shall successfully complete the initial training course and, at least once every two (2) years, the continuing education course developed under subsection (1) of this section.
