Serial: 194307 IN THE SUPREME COURT OF MISSISSIPPI No. 89-R-99021-SCT IN RE: RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING CERTIFIED COURT REPORTERS ORDER This matter is before the Court en banc on the Court s own motion. The attached Exhibit A amends Rule I.(U) of the Rules and Regulations Governing Certified Court Reporters. After due consideration, we find that the amendment will promote the fair and efficient administration of justice and should be adopted. IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED that Rule I.(U) of the Rules and Regulations Governing Certified Court Reporters is amended as set forth in Exhibit A. IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the Clerk of this Court shall spread this order upon the minutes of the Court and shall forward a true certified copy to West Publishing Company for publication as soon as practical in the advance sheets of Southern Reporter, Third Series (Mississippi Edition) and in the next edition of Mississippi Rules of Court. DEFINITIONS As used in these rules and regulations, the following terms have the following meanings, unless expressly otherwise provided, or as may result from necessary implication: .... (U) Official Court Reporter. A competent and properly licensed court reporter who has been appointed by a circuit, chancery, or county court judge in his/her county or district by entry of an order to that effect upon the minutes of the court to make a verbatim record of testimony or proceedings relevant to matters under the jurisdiction of the courts of the State of Mississippi, all state agencies, or the Legislature or any committee or subcommittee thereof, or where appeal to any court of the State of Mississippi is allowable by law. That reporter shall be known as the official court reporter of said district or county., shall be a full-time employee, and may not engage in any freelance reporting activities. .... 2
