S T A T E O F M I C H I G A N C O U R T O F A P P E A L S PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN, UNPUBLISHED August 13, 1996 Plaintiff-Appellee, v No. 185407 LC No. 94-003265-FC KENNETH MAURICE VANEENOO, Defendant-Appellant. Before: Kavanagh, T.G.,* P.J., and R.B. Burns** and G.S. Allen,** JJ. MEMORANDUM. Defendant pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery, MCL 750.157a; MSA 28.354(1) and MCL 750.529; MSA 28.797, and was sentenced to four to twenty years’ imprisonment. He appeals as of right. We affirm. This case has been decided without oral argument pursuant to MCR 7.214(E)(1)(b). Defendant’s sentence does not violate the principle of proportionality. People v Milbourn, 435 Mich 630, 636; 461 NW2d 1 (1990); People v Duprey, 186 Mich App 313, 318; 463 NW2d 240 (1990). The trial court properly emphasized the need to protect society, as opposed to defendant’s potential for rehabilitation, in its sentencing decision. Defendant’s potential for rehabilitation was only one factor for the court to consider at the time of sentencing. The court did not err in giving greater weight to the need to protect society on the facts of this case. People v Stammer, 179 Mich App 432, 437; 446 NW2d 312 (1989). Affirmed. /s/ Thomas G. Kavanagh *Former Supreme Court Justice, sitting on the Court of Appeals by assignment pursuant to Administrative Order 1996-3. **Former Court of Appeals Judges, sitting on the Court of Appeals by assignment pursuant to Administrative Order 1996-3. -1 /s/ Robert B.
