HONORABLE JOSEPH O. CARSON II

The following Resolution was adopted as a memorial to the late Joseph O. Carson II WHEREAS, the Honorable Joseph O. Carson II, a resident of North Vernon, was a Judge of the Court of Appeals of Indiana; and
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret that we note the passing of Judge Carson at age 89 on November 14, 1998; and
WHEREAS, Judge Carson was elected to the Court of Appeals of Indiana in November 1962 and served from Januarv 1. 1963 to December 31, 1970; and
WHEREAS. Judge Carson received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his law degree from Indiana University School of Law - Bloomington in 1932 and was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Indiana the same year;
and
WHEREAS. Judge Carson served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in special services and with the Judge Advocate's Division; remained in the reserves after the war and retired as a lieutenant colonel: served the people of Indiana in the private practice of law in Indianapolis form 1932 to 1942 and in North Vernon from 1947 to 1963: as the Jennings County Circuit Court Judge from 1973 to 1978; as the North Vernon City Court Judge: as the prosecutor for Scott and Jennings Counties; and again in the private practice of law in North Vernon from 1979 until he retired; and WHEREAS, Judge Carson was a World War II Veteran. a member of the
North Vernon Presbyterian Church, the North Vernon Masonic Lodge No. 59, the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, the Gamma Eta Gamma legal fraternity, a past president and secretary of the Jennings-Scott County Bar Association, a member of the Indiana and American Bar Associations and the Indiana Judges Association; and
WHEREAS, Judge Carson was married to Elisabeth Chastain and leaves her surviving as his widow; and also is survived by two daughters, Sarah E Gierzynski and Olga Pelance, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, his passing is a loss to his community, our State, his family, friends, and this Court.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Memorial Resolution be adopted by the Court of Appeals of Indiana and spread of record on the Order Book of this Court.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the members of this Court extend their sympathy to the widow, daughters, family and friends of this able lawyer and jurist and that a copy of the Memorial Resolution, under seal of this Court, be sent to his widow, Mrs. Elisabeth C. Carson, 526 South Jennings Street, North Vernon, Indiana 47265.
