66-3.1. Police powers of internal investigators; training.

The Director may designate an inspector general of the Department and no morethan ten members of the internal investigations unit of the Department tohave the same powers as a sheriff or a law-enforcement officer in theinvestigation of allegations of criminal behavior affecting the operations ofthe Department. Investigators so designated shall receive the trainingrequired by the Department of Criminal Justice Services for law-enforcementpersonnel before exercising such powers.

Nothing in this section shall be construed to grant the Department anyauthority over the operation and security of detention homes which is notspecified in other provisions of law.
