923 - Definitions.

    §  923.  Definitions.  The  following words or phrases as used in this
  section shall have the following meanings:
    1.  "Underserved  area"  means  an  area  or   medically   underserved
  population  designated  by  the  commissioner  as  having  a shortage of
  primary  care  physicians,  other  primary  care  practitioners,  dental
  practitioners or mental health practitioners.
    2.  "Primary  care  service  corps  practitioner"  means  a  physician
  assistant, nurse practitioner, midwife, general or  pedodontic  dentist,
  dental   hygienist,  clinical  psychologist,  licensed  clinical  social
  worker, psychiatric nurse practitioner,  licensed  marriage  and  family
  therapist,  or  a  licensed  mental  health  counselor, who is licensed,
  registered, or certified to practice in New York state and who  provides
  coordinated  primary  care services, including, but not limited to, oral
  health and mental health services and meets the national health  service
  corps state loan repayment program eligibility criteria.
    3.  "Physician  assistant"  means  a person who has been registered as
  such pursuant to article one hundred thirty-one-B of the  education  law
  and meets the national health service corps state loan repayment program
  eligibility criteria.
    4.  "Nurse practitioner" means a person who has been certified as such
  pursuant to section sixty-nine hundred ten  of  the  education  law  and
  meets  the  national  health  service corps state loan repayment program
  eligibility criteria.
    5. "Midwife" means a person who has been licensed as such pursuant  to
  section sixty-nine hundred fifty-five of the education law and meets the
  national  health  service corps state loan repayment program eligibility
  criteria.
    6. "Psychologist" means  a  person  who  has  been  licensed  as  such
  pursuant  to  section seventy-six hundred three of the education law and
  meets the national health service corps  state  loan  repayment  program
  eligibility criteria.
    7.  "Licensed  clinical  social  worker"  means  a person who has been
  licensed as such pursuant to section seventy-seven hundred  two  of  the
  education  law  and  meets  the national health service corps state loan
  repayment program eligibility criteria.
    8. "Psychiatric nurse practitioner" means a nurse practitioner who, by
  reason  of  training  and  experience,  provides  a  full  spectrum   of
  psychiatric care, assessing, diagnosing, and managing the prevention and
  treatment  of psychiatric disorders and mental health problems and meets
  the  national  health  service  corps  state  loan   repayment   program
  eligibility criteria.
    9.  "Licensed  marriage  and  family therapist" means a person who has
  been licensed as such pursuant to section eighty-four hundred  three  of
  the education law and meets the national health service corps state loan
  repayment program eligibility criteria.
    10.  "Licensed  mental  health  counselor" means a person who has been
  licensed as such pursuant to section  eighty-four  hundred  two  of  the
  education  law  and  meets  the national health service corps state loan
  repayment program eligibility criteria.
    11. "General or pedodontic  dentist"  means  a  person  who  has  been
  licensed  or  otherwise  authorized  to  practice  dentistry pursuant to
  article  one  hundred  thirty-three  of  the  education  law   excluding
  orthodontists,  endodontists  and  periodontists  and meets the national
  health service corps state loan repayment program eligibility criteria.
    12. "Dental hygienist" means a person  who  is  licensed  to  practice
  dental  hygiene  pursuant  to  section  sixty-six  hundred  nine  of the
  education law and meets the national health  service  corps  state  loan
  repayment program eligibility criteria.
