RS 46:1992 — Purpose

LA Rev Stat § 46:1992 What's This?

§1992. Purpose

A. There is an increasing number of persons in the state who, in their middle years and having fulfilled the role of homemaker, find themselves displaced because of injury to spouse, dissolution of marriage, death of spouse, or other loss of family income. As a consequence, displaced homemakers have a greatly reduced income, high rate of unemployment due to age, education or lack of paid work experience, and therefore suffer from inadequate opportunities to collect funds of assistance from social security, unemployment compensation, medicaid and other health insurance benefit, or pension plans of the spouse.

B. The office may establish a multipurpose service program to coordinate and utilize existing services to the maximum extent, and to provide necessary referral for training, counseling, and other services for displaced homemakers, so that they may enjoy the economic security vital to a productive family life.

Added by Acts 1977, No. 664, §1. Amended by Acts 1978, No. 786, §6, eff. July 17, 1978; Acts 1985, No. 772, §2, eff. July 19, 1985.
