CA Penal Code § 6271 (through 2012 Leg Sess) What's This?

(a) The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is authorized to construct, establish, and operate reentry program facilities throughout the state that will house up to 6,000 inmates. These facilities shall be secure facilities of up to 500 beds each, house inmates within one year of being released or rereleased from custody, and, to the extent possible, be sited in urban locations.

(b) Reentry program facilities shall only be established in a city, county, or city and county that requests a reentry program facility, and the proposed location of the facility shall be identified by the city, county, or city and county.
