STATE OF MICHIGAN
COURT OF APPEALS
KIMBERLY A. CRAIG,
UNPUBLISHED
May 13, 2010
Petitioner-Appellee,
v
No. 288015
Clinton Circuit Court
LC No. 08-020604-PH
JEFFREY E. BEAGLE,
Respondent-Appellant.
Before: GLEICHER, P.J., and FITZGERALD and WILDER, JJ.
MEMORANDUM.
Respondent appeals as of right from the trial court’s order denying his motion to
terminate a personal protection order (PPO) against him. We dismiss this appeal as moot. We
decide this appeal without oral argument pursuant to MCR 7.214(E).
“As a general rule, an appellate court will not decide moot issues.” B P 7 v Bureau of
State Lottery, 231 Mich App 356, 359; 586 NW2d 117 (1998). An issue becomes moot when an
event occurs that renders it impossible for the reviewing court to provide a remedy. Attorney
Gen v Public Service Comm, 269 Mich App 473, 485; 713 NW2d 290 (2005). Petitioner’s ex
parte PPO against respondent expired on January 7, 2009. Nothing in the record indicates, and
respondent has failed to sufficiently argue, that the expired PPO will result in any serious
collateral consequences. Cf Hayford v Hayford, 279 Mich App 324, 325; 760 NW2d 503
(2008). Therefore, we dismiss this appeal as moot.
Appeal dismissed.
