§ 33.1-223.2:3. (Repealed effective October 1, 2014) Directional signs for certain educational institutions


VA Code § 33.1-223.2:3 (2014) What's This?

Upon request from the institution, the Commissioner shall erect and maintain, at appropriate and conspicuous locations along interstate, primary, or secondary highways, signs providing motorists directions to the main or branch location of any Virginia educational institution. All costs associated with production and erection of signs under this section shall be borne by the affected institution, but all costs associated with maintenance of those signs shall be borne by the Virginia Department of Transportation. For the purpose of this section, "Virginia educational institution" means a for-profit educational institution with its main campus located in Virginia that (i) has, for at least five consecutive years prior to making a request under this section, awarded academic degrees approved by the State Council of Higher Education; (ii) offers programs in workforce training or job readiness that contribute to Virginia's economic growth and development; and (iii) has a combined annual enrollment of at least 1,000 students at its main campus and any branch location situated within a radius of twenty-five miles from the main campus. Signs erected by the Virginia Department of Transportation under this section shall be placed in accordance with all applicable Departmental regulations.
