§ 33.1-296. Projects authorized.

In order to provide for the construction of modern express highways or superhighways embodying safety devices, including center division, ample shoulder widths, longsight distances, grade separations at intersections with other highways and railroads, and thereby facilitate vehicular traffic, remove many of the present handicaps and hazards on the congested highways in the Commonwealth, and promote the agricultural and industrial development of the Commonwealth, the Commonwealth Transportation Board of Virginia is hereby authorized and empowered to construct, maintain, repair and operate turnpike projects (as hereinafter defined), and to issue revenue bonds of the Commonwealth, payable solely from revenues, and any other funds made available to the Board for such purpose, to finance such projects.
