46.2-1257. Invalidation and re-issuance of organizational and permanentremovable windshield placards.

A. Effective October 1, 1998, the Department shall mail a placard meeting thespecifications set forth in 46.2-1240 and 46.2-1259 to each organizationaland permanent removable windshield placard holder. The Department shallinstruct each organizational and permanent removable windshield placardholder to return by mail their existing placard to the Department by January1, 1999. The Department shall conduct the exchange during a three-monthperiod commencing October 1, 1998, and ceasing January 1, 1999.

B. The Department shall not require valid placard holders to obtaincertification that they have a disability that limits or impairs theirability to walk in order to receive a placard meeting the specifications setforth in 46.2-1240 and 46.2-1259.

C. All placards issued by the Department pursuant to this section shall bearthe valid expiration date of the placard which is replaced by the Department.

D. Effective January 1, 1999, any organizational removable windshield placardor permanent removable windshield placard not meeting the specifications setforth under 46.2-1240 shall be invalid. Any person attempting to use thedisabled parking privileges provided by this chapter and displaying aninvalid organizational or permanent removable windshield placard may becharged with a violation of 46.2-1242, and any invalid placard shall besubject to confiscation pursuant to 46.2-1255.
