33.1-296. Projects authorized.

In order to provide for the construction of modern express highways orsuperhighways embodying safety devices, including center division, ampleshoulder widths, longsight distances, grade separations at intersections withother highways and railroads, and thereby facilitate vehicular traffic,remove many of the present handicaps and hazards on the congested highways inthe Commonwealth, and promote the agricultural and industrial development ofthe Commonwealth, the Commonwealth Transportation Board of Virginia is herebyauthorized and empowered to construct, maintain, repair and operate turnpikeprojects (as hereinafter defined), and to issue revenue bonds of theCommonwealth, payable solely from revenues, and any other funds madeavailable to the Board for such purpose, to finance such projects.
