16.1-340. Emergency admission.

A minor, including a minor in detention or shelter care pursuant to an orderof a juvenile and domestic relations court, may be taken into custody andadmitted for inpatient treatment pursuant to the procedures specified inArticle 4 ( 37.2-808 et seq.) of Chapter 8 of Title 37.2. If the minor isadmitted to a willing facility in accordance with 37.2-809, the temporarydetention order shall be effective until such time as the juvenile anddomestic relations district court serving the jurisdiction in which the minoris located schedules a hearing. The juvenile and domestic relations districtcourt serving the jurisdiction in which the minor is located shall schedule ahearing pursuant to 16.1-341 no sooner than 24 hours and no later than 72hours from the time of the issuance of the temporary detention order. If the72-hour period expires on a Saturday, Sunday, legal holiday or day on whichthe court is lawfully closed, the 72 hours shall be extended to the next daythat is not a Saturday, Sunday, legal holiday or day on which the court islawfully closed.
