Chapter 9 - Department of Public Works
§ 141. Division of Highways

    • Establishment

      • (a) The Governor of the Virgin Islands is hereby directed to establish within the Department of Public Works a Division of Highways (hereafter called the Division) pursuant to authorization of section 134 of this title.

    • Director and Assistant Director

      • (b) The Division is to be headed by a Director, who shall be an engineer, architect or planner qualified by education and training in road engineering and who shall be knowledgeable with respect to the problems of road building and maintenance as compounded by such climate and terrain as our own. There shall be an Assistant Director stationed in the St. Croix branch of the Division and who shall have a reasonably comprehensive background in road engineering.

    • Personnel, equipment and materials

      • (c) The Division shall be staffed primarily from those employees of the Department of Public Works who are engaged in road and street construction and maintenance at the effective date of the establishment of the Division. The equipment and materials used or requisitioned for road and street construction and maintenance or for related purposes at the date of the establishment of the Division by the Department of Public Works shall be assigned to the Division by the Commissioner of Public Works.

    • Organization, duties and functions

      • (d) All other specific aspects of the organization, functions, and duties of the Division, the Director, and the Assistant Director shall be determined by the Governor pursuant to the authorization by section 134 of this title.

      • (e) [Repealed.]
