§ 190s. Lew Muckle Scholarship

  • (a) There is hereby established the Lew Muckle Scholarship to be awarded annually by the Virgin Islands Board of Education.

  • (b) The Virgin Islands Board of Education shall annually select a recipient of the scholarship established by this section who (1) shall be a bona fide resident of the Virgin Islands, (2) shall be financially unable to pursue further education or career and technical training without assistance, and (3) shall have exhibited ability and aptitude for such further education or training.

  • (c) Scholarships granted pursuant to this section shall not exceed the sum of $3,000 per year, which sum shall be applied to the payment of tuition, lodging, board, transportation expenses or any other related expenses in connection with the studies pursued in each case. Each scholarship granted shall be for a period of not more than four years. No scholarship funds shall be released to a scholarship recipient until he has been formally accepted for enrollment at the educational institution of his choice.

  • (d) The Virgin Islands Board of Education may adopt forms to be used by applicants for the Lew Muckle Scholarship, fix a date on which the scholarship is to be awarded annually and adopt such rules and regulations which are not inconsistent with this section for carrying into effect the provisions of this section.
