Chapter 29 - Contempts
§ 584. Inapplicability of sections 582 and 583 to certain contempts

  • Sections 582 and 583 of this title shall not apply to—
    • (1) contempts committed in the presence of the court, or so near thereto as to obstruct the administration of justice; or

    • (2) contempts committed in disobedience of any lawful writ, process, order, rule, decree, or command entered in any action or proceeding brought or prosecuted in the name of, or on behalf of, the United States or the Government of the Virgin Islands—but the same, and all other cases of contempt not specifically embraced in such sections may be punished in conformity with the prevailing usages at law.
