§ 201. Continuing domicil

  • Any person who is an elected or appointed official, officer, or employee of the Government of the Virgin Islands or of the Federal Government and who is required thereby to be absent from the Virgin Islands may retain his legal residence in the Virgin Islands and in the island of domicil for at least the duration of the term of office or employment if such person —
    • (1) was a resident of the Virgin Islands immediately prior to the required absence, and

    • (2) intends to retain his residence in the Virgin Islands, and during his absence does not manifest a contrary intention by exercising the right of citizens of the jurisdiction in which he is living by voting in such other jurisdiction, or by any other act of legal significance. Such continuing legal residence in the Virgin Islands shall have every incidence accorded by law.
