1048. Examination; report; treatment

A physician, licensed to practice medicine and surgery in the state, shall immediately after examination of an indigent person wishing treatment for tuberculosis or other chronic respiratory disease make a report of his or her findings to the commissioner of health. Upon receipt of such report, the commissioner may authorize treatment of the afflicted person. Such person's physician shall thereupon prescribe the time of treatment and designate the facility at which treatment shall be given, provided, however, that in a case of tuberculosis suspected of being infectious, the commissioner may apply all the laws and regulations of communicable disease control.
