Executive Order No. 13-6

(No. 10-10)

[Criminal Justice Cabinet

WHEREAS, the administration of criminal and juvenile justice in Vermont directly affects the lives of thousands of Vermont citizens each year; and

WHEREAS, recognizing that various elements of the administration of criminal and juvenile justice are appropriately constitutionally and administratively separate, closer communication and coordination among those elements is desirable; and

WHEREAS, there is a need for more consistent and available information about the occurrence of crime and the effects of the response to crime by various agencies, such that the policies can be coordinated and costs can be controlled more effectively.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, James H. Douglas, by virtue of the power vested in me as Governor, do hereby create the Governor's Criminal Justice Cabinet, which shall have the following membership:

The Commissioner of Corrections;

The Commissioner of Public Safety;

The Commissioner of Motor Vehicles;

The Commissioner of Fish and Wildlife;

The Commissioner of the Department for Children and Families;

The Executive Director of the Department of State's Attorneys' and Sheriffs' Departments;

The Court Administrator;

The Defender General;

The Attorney General;

The Chair of the Vermont Parole Board;

A Representative of the Center for Crime Victim Services;

The Executive Director of the Criminal Justice Training Council;

A Representative of the Police Chiefs Association;

The Legal Counsel to the Governor who shall serve as Chair of the Cabinet;

One member of the House, who shall be appointed by the Speaker; and

One member of the Senate, who shall be appointed by the Senate Committee on Committees.

The Criminal Justice Cabinet shall be advisory to the Governor and shall meet periodically at the call of the Chair to discuss and coordinate issues of significance to the administration of criminal and juvenile justice in Vermont. The Cabinet shall consult annually with the Vermont Center for Justice Research, the State's designated statistical analysis center, about the Center's annual work plan.

This Executive Order supersedes and replaces Executive Order 33-87A (codified as 13-1).
