§ 5520. Service of summons
(a) If a party to be served with a summons is within the state and can be found, the summons shall be served upon him personally at least three days before the hearing. If he is within the state and cannot be found, but his address is known or can with reasonable diligence be ascertained, the summons may be served upon him by mailing a copy thereof by certified mail at least five days before the hearing. If he is without the state but he can be found or his address is known, or can with reasonable diligence be ascertained, service of the summons may be made either by delivering a copy thereof to him personally, or mailing a copy thereof to him by certified mail at least five days before the hearing.
(b) Service of summons may be made by any sheriff, deputy sheriff or constable. (1967, No. 304 (Adj. Sess.), § 18.)
