2005 Vermont Code - § 302. — Definitions

§ 302. Definitions

(a) Unless otherwise required by the context, the words and phrases in this chapter shall be defined as follows:

(1) "Commissioner" means the commissioner of social and rehabilitation services.

(2) "Department" means the department of social and rehabilitation services.

(3) "Federal department or agency" means a department or agency of the United States of America.

(4) "Guardian" means a legal guardian appointed by a probate court, or by a court in a divorce or other proceeding or action.

(5) "Secretary" means the secretary of the federal department of health and human services.

(6) "Social services" means the services administered by the department of social and rehabilitation services.

(7) "Social Security Act" means the federal Social Security Act and rules and regulations made thereunder, as amended at any time.

(b) The laws relating to the department of social and rehabilitation services and its programs shall be construed liberally to carry out the policies stated in this chapter. (Added 1973, No. 152 (Adj. Sess.), § 28, eff. April 14, 1974.)
