§ 1. Department created; commissioner, appointment

(a) The department of labor is hereby created to administer the laws relating to labor in chapter 1, subchapters 4 and 5 of chapter 3, and chapters 5 through 17 of this title and other laws assigned to the department for administration. There shall be within the department the apprenticeship council and other boards, councils, and committees specially assigned to the department.

(b) Biennially, with the advice and consent of the senate, the governor shall appoint a commissioner of labor. (Amended 1959, No. 329 (Adj. Sess.), § 30, eff. March 1, 1961; 1967, No. 71, § 1; 2005, No. 103 (Adj. Sess.), § 1, eff. April 5, 2006.)
