§ 8. Rule governing the taking of bobcat

1.0 Authority

This rule is promulgated pursuant to 10 V.S.A. §§ 4081, 4082 and 4084. In promulgating this rule, the Fish and Wildlife Board is following the policy established by the General Assembly that the protection, propagation, control, management, and conservation of fish, wildlife and fur-bearing animals in this state is in the interest of the public welfare and that the safeguarding of this valuable resource for the people of the state requires a constant and continual vigilance.

In accordance with 10 V.S.A. § 4082 and § 4084, this rule is designed to maintain the best health, population and utilization levels of the regulated species.

This rule shall apply to all persons who take or attempt to take bobcats.

2.0 Purpose

The purpose of this rule is to regulate the taking of bobcats by shooting and trapping.

3.0 Permitted Activities and Restrictions

A person shall take bobcat by shooting only, with or without dogs, from January 10 through February 7, both dates inclusive.

A person shall take bobcat by trapping only, beginning December 1 and running through December 16, both dates inclusive.

A person who takes bobcats during the shooting season shall present the pelts and carcasses to a Vermont State Game Warden for tagging within ten days of the close of the season.

A person who takes bobcats during the trapping season shall present the pelts and carcasses to Vermont State Game Warden for tagging within 48 hours of the close of the season.

All bobcat carcasses shall be surrendered to the Warden.

No bobcat pelts or carcasses from bobcats taken during these seasons shall be transported out of the State of Vermont prior to being tagged by a Vermont State Game Warden.

The tag on the pelt shall remain attached until the pelt is made into commercial fur.
