2005 Vermont Code - § 7. — Bear, taking with aid of dogs

§ 7. Bear, taking with aid of dogs

(a) A person shall not take black bear in a baited area. A baited area shall be construed as an area where meat, carrion, honey or other substance capable of luring or attracting bear has been placed or deposited.

(b) Unless the person in control of the dogs has a permit to do so from the commissioner a person shall not take black bear with the aid of dogs. Such a permit shall specify the particular dogs to be included in the permit. Permits are to be issued at no fee at the discretion of the commissioner.

(c) A person shall not take black bear with the aid of more than six dogs acting in unison as a single pack nor by relaying packs. The term "relaying packs" shall be deemed to mean using two or more consecutive packs of dogs on the trail of the same bear.

(d) A person shall not take a bear into his actual possession except by killing the bear by shooting in a humane manner.

(e) A person shall not advertise, barter, exchange, expose or otherwise sell the use of a dog or dogs for the purpose of taking any black bear.

(f) A person shall not hire, barter, exchange or buy the use of a dog or dogs for the purposes of taking any black bear. (1972, Fish and Game Board Reg. No. 845, eff. =hr7/t ; amended 1982, Fish and Game Board Reg. No. 935, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1982.)
