§ 4097a. Legislative findings

The general assembly of the state of Vermont makes the following findings of fact:

(1) the disease of alcoholism is a major health problem in the state of Vermont resulting in loss of health, loss of productivity, disruption of the family, crime, untimely death both on and off the highways, and significant and unnecessary health and social costs;

(2) the disease of alcoholism can be successfully treated;

(3) the treatment of the disease of alcoholism can generally be carried out in nonmedical settings;

(4) physicians and medical students need to be educated in the recognition and treatment of the disease of alcoholism including but not limited to the availability of such groups as Alcoholics Anonymous, Alanon and Alateen. (Added 1985, No. 75, § 2, eff. March 1, 1986.)
