§ 2987. Use of dairy promotion fund

(a) No expense of the council shall be paid out of any funds of the state except from the dairy promotion fund, which fund shall be subject at all times to the accounting controls of the state. The dairy promotion fund may be used only for the costs of the collection of taxes imposed hereunder, and for the administration of this chapter and the state treasurer shall pay over to the council upon order of the council such funds as the council may require.

(b) The fund may be used to administer the provisions of chapter 161 of this title relating to the duties of the Vermont milk commission and the enforcement of its orders. Fund moneys used for these purposes shall not exceed two percent of the amount received under this chapter and chapter 161.

(c) The balance of the fund shall be used for promotional and educational purposes, experimental planning, research, advertising, and the necessary compensation and expenses of the council.

(d) Any balance remaining at the close of any fiscal year shall be carried forward for the same purpose in the following year. (1965, No. 175, § 67; amended 1989, No. 256 (Adj. Sess.), § 7, eff. Jan. 1, 1991; 1991, No. 232 (Adj. Sess.), § 6.)
