§10417. Youth education and domestic violence (a) General purpose

For purposes of this section, the Secretary may, in consultation with the Secretary of Education, select, implement and evaluate 4 model programs for education of young people about domestic violence and violence among intimate partners.

(b) Nature of program

The Secretary shall select, implement and evaluate separate model programs for 4 different audiences: primary schools, middle schools, secondary schools, and institutions of higher education. The model programs shall be selected, implemented, and evaluated in consultation with educational experts, legal and psychological experts on battering, and victim advocate organizations such as battered women's shelters, State coalitions and resource centers.

(c) Review and dissemination

Not later than 2 years after September 13, 1994, the Secretary shall transmit the design and evaluation of the model programs, along with a plan and cost estimate for nationwide distribution, to the relevant committees of Congress for review.

(d) Authorization of appropriations

There are authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section 0,000 for fiscal year 1996.

Prior Provisions

Provisions similar to this section were contained in Pub. L. 102–295, title III, §322, May 28, 1992, 106 Stat. 211, which directed Secretary of Education, in consultation with Secretary of Health and Human Services, to develop three separate programs, one each for primary and middle schools, secondary schools, and institutions of higher learning, for the purpose of educating young people about domestic violence and violence among intimate partners, further provided that such programs would be developed with input from educational experts, law enforcement personnel, legal and psychological experts on battering, and victim advocate organizations, further provided that not later than 9 months after May 28, 1992, the Secretary was to transmit model programs, along with plan and cost estimate for nationwide distribution, to Congress for review, and further provided appropriation of 0,000 for fiscal year 1992, to carry out these functions.
