CHAPTER 56 - AMERICAN INDIAN, ALASKA NATIVE, AND NATIVE HAWAIIAN CULTURE AND ART DEVELOPMENT
SUBCHAPTER I - AMERICAN INDIANS AND ALASKA NATIVES
Sec. 4424 - Compliance with other Acts

The Institute shall comply with the provisions of—

(1) Public Law 95 341 (42 U.S.C. 1996), popularly known as the American Indian Religious Freedom Act,

(2) the Archeological Resources Protection Act of 1979 (16 U.S.C. 470aa et seq.), and

(3) the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. 470 et seq.).

All Federal criminal laws relating to larceny, embezzlement, or conversion of the funds or the property of the United States shall apply to the funds and property of the Institute.

(1) Funds received by the institute1 pursuant to this chapter2 shall not be regarded as Federal money for purposes of meeting any matching requirements for any Federal grant, contract or cooperative agreement.

(2) The Institute shall not be subject to any provision of law requiring that non-Federal funds or other moneys be used in part to fund any grant, contract, cooperative agreement, or project as a condition to the application for, or receipt of, Federal assistance. This subsection shall not be construed to effect3 in a negative fashion the review, prioritization, or acceptance of any application or proposal for such a program, solicited or unsolicited.

Public Law 95 341, popularly known as the American Indian Religious Freedom Act, referred to in subsec. (a)(1), is Pub. L. 95 341, Aug. 11, 1978, 92 Stat. 469, which is classified to section 1996 of Title 42, The Public Health and Welfare. The Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979, referred to in subsec. (a)(2), is Pub. L. 96 95, Oct. 31, 1979, 93 Stat. 721, which is classified generally to chapter 1B (§470aa et seq.) of Title 16, Conservation. The National Historic Preservation Act, referred to in subsec. (a)(3), is Pub. L. 89 665, Oct. 15, 1966, 80 Stat. 915, as amended, which is classified generally to subchapter II (§470 et seq.) of chapter 1A of Title 16. This chapter, referred to in subsec. (c)(1), was in the original “this Act” and was translated as reading “this title”, meaning title XV of Pub. L. 99 498 to reflect the probable intent of Congress.
